Our HR Policy
Our corporate initiative: "Nourishing a World of Diversity"
This strong, defining ambition is also an essential element of our human resources policy, which places diversity at the heart of our recruiting. The Casino Group has a long record of striving to ensure a mixed, diverse workforce at every level of the organization.
In 2007, for example, the Group hired 128 managers and supervisors and 758 other employees from minority populations or formally designated "sensitive" urban areas in France. The percentage of disabled employees in France exceeds 9% of our workforce, surpassing the 6% target required by law.Although the Group gives preference to internal mobility for managerial positions, it also relies on apprentice programmes: nearly 100 executives were hired through apprenticeships in 2007.
Moreover, since 2006 the Group has hired some 60 recent graduates of business and engineering schools, part of the Group’s pool of "Young Talents" in which men and women are equally represented.
Integration
Each Group subsidiary and business unit develops its own tools (classroom training, workshops, orientation programmes, etc.) for welcoming and assimilating new employees.
In addition, orientation training is held each year for newly hired managerial staff at the Group’s headquarters in Saint-Etienne. The week-long training includes presentations by Group executives and visits to Group sites such as stores and warehouses.
Capped off each year with closing remarks by Jean-Charles Naouri, the experience gives managers an opportunity to learn more about the Group and its operations, strategy and culture. It’s also an occasion for managers to meet and share ideas: the 2008 orientation training included more than 200 participants!
Over 1,000 young people receive training within the Group each year
Thanks to its diverse array of businesses and professions, the Casino Group offers a wealth of opportunities to students and recent graduates.
For many years we have been helping to train young people and introduce them to the job market, through our trainee and combined work/study programmes and our VIE (Volunteer for International Experience) assignments.
Each business sector, ranging from Sales, Finance, Marketing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Information Systems and Human Resources to Real Estate and Expansion, participates in these efforts. Trainees, apprentices and VIE participants provide a significant source of potential Group employees.
With an eye towards its recruitment of future managers, the Group has for many years played host to interns, under the terms of a training agreement.
Group facilities have established partnerships with schools and universities in order to maintain ongoing ties with students. Each year, in all our lines of work, we host a total of 700 interns, who are treated to a truly formative experience!
As early as 1991, the Group innovated in the retail industry by hosting over 100 apprentices.
Currently we have more than 650 participants in combined work/study programmes. Our policy is to give priority to those training for two-year and advanced technical degrees and vocational degrees, who now account for over half of all those taking part in these programmes.
The Distech vocational degree: Each year, 140 participants in this apprenticeship programme join the workforce at Group stores.
The programme is managed by an organization founded through the efforts of the Casino Group in partnership with other retailers. The examination pass rate exceeds 80%, and the percentage of those hired upon completing their training ranges between 60% and 90%.
We are also developing work/study training in fields such as culinary arts, foodservice, logistics, multimedia sales, information technology and commercial real estate.
As the pace of its international expansion intensifies, the Casino Group is offering a growing number of VIE (Volunteer for International Experience) opportunities—nearly 20 every year.
Participants in the VIE programme, who hold advanced degrees in business or engineering, receive assignments lasting from six to 24 months at Casino subsidiaries in Asia and South America. These projects are available primarily in the fields of marketing and purchasing but also in other areas such as administrative auditing, logistics and information systems.
The VIE experience offers a look at a different facet of the Group and often culminates in a job offer.
