Consistent with its fundamental values, the Casino Group adheres to human resources policies marked by openness and innovation, notably with regard to hiring, training and managerial practices. The Group is also attentive to the need for gender balance and workplace diversity.
Casino’s commitments translate into action in a wide range of areas:
Combating exclusion from society
France’s first retailer to adopt an Urban Policy, the Casino Group has signed a charter of commitments with the French government regarding its efforts to hire and train young people from underprivileged neighbourhoods and/or sensitive urban areas. Several hundred young adults enjoy the benefit of these programmes each year.
Moreover, the Group takes active steps to employ the disabled through its Handipacte accord, which contains a pledge that exceeds the requirements imposed on large companies.
In May 2009, Casino obtained the Diversity Label in recognition of its commitment to preventing discrimination, providing equal opportunities and promoting diversity. In 2010, thi label was audited and renewed by Afnor Certification, whose commission gave a favourable opinion on its continuation. Group subsidaries Cdiscount and Fraprix - Leader Price, in addition, signed the diversity charter.

Eliminating occupational hazards
The Casino Group has established an accident prevention plan and regularly adopts measures to ensure workplace health and safety.
An agreement method regarding the creation of a psychosocial risks prevention plan was signed by all seven trade unions on 22 January 2010.

Respecting human rights in the workplace
As a responsible retailer concerned about the conditions in which the products it sells are manufactured, the Casino Group has established a system for workplace inspections and evaluations among its suppliers in emerging countries. The Group requires compliance not only with local social regulations but also with a series of commitments defined in a Purchases ethics charter that incorporates principles of human rights.

Promoting social responsibility
The Casino Group carries out humanitarian initiatives around the world, with a particular focus on children : in Argetina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Thailand and Vietnam.
Created in late 2009, the Casino Foundation works to eliminate cultural and social exclusion by providing aid to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, those struggling with illness and those with only marginal access to eudcation, and by supporting them in their personal and intelectual development.
In addition to its campaigns to expand access to schooling, the Group provides vocational training opportunities, particularly in fields relating to the food industry. It signed an agreement with the French Federation of Food Banks en 2009, and in 2010 Casino’s workforce participated in large numbers in France’s national food drive, collecting over 1700 tonnes of products.

Educating consumers about nutrition
The Casino Group was the first retailer in France to draft a voluntary charter of commitments approved by France’s National Nutritional Health Programme (PNNS) and formally adopted under the aegis of the Ministries of Health and Agriculture.
The charter includes the Group’s pledge to enhance the nutritional quality of its products, highlight its offerings of fruits and vegetables, educate consumers and raise public awareness through its store campaigns—all with the goal of promoting proper dietary habits in the fight against overweight and obesity.
The Casino Group has also established nutritional labelling for its own-brand products that goes beyond simple nutritional data to provide helpful information on each product’s use and its role in a balanced diet.

Encouraging responsible production and consumption
The Casino Group encourages the availability of ethical and responsible product lines in its stores, based on criteria such as organic or sustainable farming, ecolabels and fair trade.
In each of its markets, Casino works closely with its suppliers to emphasise production methods that show the greatest respect for our natural resources (wood, seafood, etc.).
In line with its preference for local producers, the Group also nurtures long-term partnerships with a network of small and medium-size businesses and industries, in order to contribute to each region’s economic vitality and promote sustainable development.Casino is a founding partner in the SME Pact, an initiative launched by the French Prime Minister’s office un June 2010. 31 corporate groups have joined the Pact, signing a pledge to foster growth and efficient operations among France’s SMEs as effective and competitive suppliers of products and services.

Reducing our ecological footprint
The Casino Group is committed to fighting climate change through a variety of measures that include creating optimally efficient refrigeration systems, managing our energy consumption more effectively, reducing the impact of goods transport and selectively sorting waste.
At the same time, with its Sustainable Store programme, the Group is developing a comprehensive plan to improve the environmental performance of its property assets from the building design stage to actual use, including the production of photovoltaic solar energy (the "Solaris" project).
The Casino Group was also the industry leader in creating environmental labelling for its own-brand products. The Casino Carbon Index indicates the volume of CO2 generated by each product during the principal stages of its lifecycle, so consumers can make an informed purchasing decision.
