Preservation of fishery resources
Mindful of the need to preserve our fishery resources, we have adopted measures aimed at protecting endangered deepwater fish species. For example, we have discontinued the sale of orange roughy and blue ling and ended all promotional displays of grenadier, scabbard and bluefin tuna. Our “This Product Preserves Our Seas” logo identifies select farm-raised fish that meet specific requirements.
In 2009, our seafood products line, certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), gathered 24 items. The MSC is an international non-profit association that certifies fisheries whose operations are deemed friendly to resources and the environment.
We have also maintained our agreements with local coastal fisheries so as to supply our stores directly from the source.
