Retailing and real estate
One of the Casino Group’s unique features is its close association of retailing with real estate—a business model that generates synergies with high value-creation potential.
To this end, the Group is implementing an ambitious, pioneering strategy to develop a new generation of retail environments, designed with retail efficiency, architectural excellence and environmental quality in mind.
These thoughtfully conceived, flexible retail settings help shape an infrastructure for urban and suburban development. They contribute to neighbourhood life and revitalise local communities.
In 2008, the Casino Group embarked on a major programme—"Alcudia"—to enhance the value of its hypermarket sites in France. The project involves structural upgrades and expansion at over 100 stores, totalling 500,000 sq.m of retail space, enabling them to be linked with modern, friendly shopping centres.

A hub of expertise in commercial real estate
To carry out this task, the Group has created a dedicated division, Casino Immobilier et Développement, comprised of subsidiaries with the ability to manage and secure each project at every stage, from land acquisition (Casino Développement) to property development (IGC Promotion, Onagan, Soderip, Mayland), retail space marketing and asset management (IGC Services, Sudeco, Mercialys).
As the owner of the Group’s shopping centres in France, Mercialys operates these high-potential locations with the goal of capturing their full value. Listed on the Paris stock exchange and controlled by the Casino Group, Mercialys is one of France’s largest property companies and a leading player in the shopping centre sector.
