The United Nations Global Compact: the results of the Group’s actions

The Casino Group has published, on the United Nation’s Global Compact site, as well as on the site www.groupe-casino.fr, its « Rapport de Communication sur le Progrès 2010 » (Report on 2010’s progress).
The Global Compact is an initiative launched in 1999 by Kofi Annan, at the time the General Secretary of the UN, to encourage companies to adopt ten fundamental principals supporting Human Rights, Rights concerning Labour and the Environment and in the fight against Corruption.
The report on progress made in respect to these principles, which must be published annually, allows a review to be made against the 10 principals by companies committed to the Global Compact.
This report is, for the Casino Group, an important means of demonstrating its support to the principles of the Global Compact, to which it has subscribed since the 19th October 2009.
For this first publication, emphasis was placed on two major areas: the integration of handicapped persons into the workforce and the reduction of energy consumption.
