C-mescourses.com, a joint subsidiary of Casino and Rallye, is considering ending operations.
Like all grocery sites, C-mescourses.com saw a large increase in sales and in the average shopping cart in 2001. However, neither the growth potential of the e-grocery market nor the outlook for profitability in the short or medium term justifies keeping this activity in the Group’s business portfolio.
The procedure for consulting with employee representatives has been initiated. As a result, the site could cease operations sometime in April.
Naturally, home delivery will continue to be offered to Casino customers for the groceries they purchase in the Group’s different store formats. This service will be developed primarily in urban areas, where it is needed the most.
With this move, Casino intends to focus resources on its store networks in and outside France. These networks’ unique positioning and strong organic growth fully justify the significant improvement in earnings anticipated for the years ahead.
