Food plays a crucial role in our health. Scientific research has established clear links between diet and the prevention or development of certain diseases, such as cardiovascular illnesses and cancer. Aware of these challenges and of its responsibility as a retailer, Groupe Casino has developed a product policy that balances safety, taste, health, nutritional balance, and environmental respect.
The Group’s Nutrition & Health initiative, launched in 2003, builds on the experience and expertise acquired by Groupe Casino since 1901, the year the first Casino private-label brand was created.
- Improve the nutritional profile of products

Improving the Nutritional Profile of Products
In 2010, Groupe Casino established a Health Committee that meets several times a year to analyze data, scientific trends, and consumer expectations in the field of health. The Committee, composed of five experts (nutritionist, sociologist, endocrinologist, economist, etc.), addressed topics in 2025 such as ultra-processed foods, obesity, microplastics, PFAS, and plant-based diets.
Since its creation, the Committee has tackled numerous health-related issues, resulting in practical applications implemented across the Group.
Excessive salt consumption (more than 5 g per day for an adult) is linked to a higher risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
Reducing salt levels in private-label products has been a priority for Groupe Casino for several years, using various approaches:
Developing no-added-salt or reduced-salt ranges, particularly in ham and savory snack categories (cashews, peanuts).
Reformulating products to lower salt content; for example, the Casino Délices Tomato & Ricotta Basil Sauce saw its salt content reduced by over 55%.
Excessive sugar consumption can lead to overweight, obesity, diabetes, and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Groupe Casino’s brands work to develop and reformulate food products to reduce their sugar content.
The Group also offers products with no added sugar or reduced-sugar options.
Excessive consumption of foods high in fat—particularly saturated fatty acids—is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and higher blood cholesterol levels.
To help reduce fat intake, Groupe Casino’s brands offer low-fat products or reformulate existing products to lower their saturated fat content.
Replacing oils high in saturated fats with oils that have a healthier nutritional profile.
Reducing overall fat content, including in chips, mayonnaise, and salad dressings, as well as offering a range of 0% dairy products (fromage blanc, yogurt).
Fiber helps prevent obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol, yet fiber intake among the French population remains insufficient.
To help increase dietary fiber consumption, Groupe Casino’s brands offer product ranges made with whole wheat.

Providing clearer information to consumers
Groupe Casino provides its customers with clear, reliable, and robust information on the nutritional quality of the private-label products it sells. For many years, the Group has displayed nutritional information on its products and made this information available through its apps.
